I say this a lot, but time flies … January of 2016 has already gone … which also means that I’ve gotten through the first month of my “Happiness Project“.
To recap, I kickstarted things by focusing on ENERGY, and while it would be a far stretch to say that I’ve exceeded expectations, overall, I feel that I’ve accomplished what I set out to do.
While my Resolutions Chart shows that I only managed to keep every single one of my 8 daily resolutions on two days (abysmal!), I did achieve more check marks than not on most days. Having specific tasks outlined for each day and holding myself accountable to them, meant that I felt more compelled to accomplish than I would have without any plan of action. Practically, I found keeping my daily resolutions particularly hard on weekends, as my schedule depended much more on what A and I planned together.
My favorite daily resolution by far was taking the time to sit down with a cup of tea each morning in order to reflect on a trajectory for the day. And while still not perfect, I am much more conscious about sitting straight and rehydrating on a daily basis. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I still find myself sneaking out my iPhone in bed – mostly in the evenings – but I have noticed a reduction in the amount of time I spend glued to my smartphone.
Importantly, I managed to accomplish every single one of my 5 specific goals for ENERGY. By completing these tasks, I now have a very organized home and computer, I’ve actually got a diagnoses for my back problems, and I am working my way through my list of unfinished tasks. The only discrepancy is that I changed my goal of “getting a personal trainer” to “starting a fitness routine”. Since the entire purpose of getting a personal trainer was to keep myself accountable to my weekly resolution of exercising 3 times minimum, I decided to scrap this particular goal once I found myself self-motivated. Instead, I am following Blogilates again, and I love it!
As for what I’ve learned … choosing ENERGY, like choosing HAPPINESS is at least as much about attitude as it is about an actual physical state. Thankfully, I enjoy being organized and active and so focusing on ENERGY was relatively easy. February’s element of WORK will be much tougher to commit to, but on to the next month and it’s challenges!
